JDID, Milestone 3: Feasibility of a Sponge District

The Oued of the El Agba 2 site periodically floods both the area itself and the downstream neighborhood of El Agba 1. To address this issue, a proposal was made to (re)create a vegetated floodplain. This forms part of the work carried out by students involved in Milestone 3 of the JDID project.

Milestone 3 of JDID begins in September 2025 for students from ENAU and ISTEUB. It continues through a 4 days workshop involving these students from the University of Carthage, as well as four young members of the Engineers Without Borders association at EIVP.

In their project outcomes, rainwater and greywater are collected and reused during periods of water stress. This proposal was developed at the architectural scale, focusing on housing design. Students worked by block typologies, organized into inter-school and interdisciplinary teams. They also attended lectures by Ms. Narjes ABDELGHANI and Ms. Salma GHARBI, which served as sources of inspiration.

They presented their studies before a jury composed of Ms. Faten ZAKHAMA and Mr. Mohamed BOUHAHA (SNIT), Ms. Chiraz GAFSIA (JDID Project Officer, UN-Habitat), and their supervisors: Ms. Imen LANDOULSI, Ms. Dora BEN YEDDER, and Ms. Saloua FERJANI; Mr. Bilel BEN ROMDHANE (ENAU); Ms. Olfa BEN MEDIEN and Mr. Sofiene HELAILI (ISTEUB); and Mr. Yann CALAZEL (EIVP, UrbanWater consultant), who presented JDID during World Cities Day organized by IRD and UN-Habitat at the IFT on October 31.
